Guide to Best Money Making Apps for 2020

Who doesn’t like making money? It might be hard to find an answer to that one. This means this topic might just be relevant for everyone. Coming out of this pandemic we figured earning passive income might just be more relevant than ever before. After all, there’s a number of money making apps especially some that are new in 2020. Therefore, it might be difficult to know where to begin. That’s why we decided it might just be time to put together a guide to the best money making apps for 2020. Whether you are interested in investing in cryptocurrency, delivering groceries or selling your photos online there might just be an app out there for you.

Before you get started on one of these best money making apps, we want to encourage you to do some of your own research. Your side hustle may take a good chunk of your time, so it is important to know what you are getting yourself into. Instead, we recommend using this guide for money-making as a starting point.

Best Money Making Apps Today

1. Instacart

Perhaps you are someone who really enjoys grocery shopping (who knows maybe these people exist?). If so, did you know that this app pays you to shop for and deliver people’s groceries? With the app Instacart, you can join this American company known for being an online grocery delivery service.

Good Morning America even recognized this application as being;

“A new side hustle for moms who want to make some extra cash without compromising their time.”

Reviews suggest that you will get paid out weekly and still enjoy the benefits of a flexible schedule.

Keep in mind as a shopper and deliverer, you will need to be over the age of 18, have a smartphone, and a valid driver’s license. If you meet these requirements you can take the next step and sign up. Just keep in mind that while the scheduling is flexible you are still assigned shifts within your desired availability and must keep to it.

2. Swagbucks

With The Swagbucks app, you can get paid for the everyday things that you do online. Yes, that means you can even get paid to play games. However, the most popular way to make money on this app is to take surveys.  But you can also make money by playing games, getting cashback in your online purchases, and trying products.  Doing these things will earn you Swagbucks which you can then redeem for gift cards or get cashback on PayPal.

Swagbucks has been around since 2008 and has paid out over $400 million to its members.  Swagbucks has an overall rating of 4 ½ stars (out of 5) on Trustpilot.  Its parent company has an A+ rating with the BBB.

3. HedgeTrade

On our list, we of course had to mention the Hedgetrade app. You might have heard of everyone’s “gets rich” stories on how they lucked out buying cryptocurrency. We’ll admit it can be hard not to follow these trends. However, getting started may seem just a bit scary. With a predictions platform like HedgeTrade, you can unlock the predictions of investors that are trusted in the industry and know what they’re doing. That way you have an idea of where to get started. And that’s why traders or all experience levels consider it to be one of the best money making apps today.

To get started, traders and users purchase HEDG tokens on an exchange or with bitcoin. They can then stake these tokens when they create their trading prediction or “blueprint” on the platform. Alternatively, you might decide to purchase the blueprint with HEDG and unlock the details of the prediction. You then wait until the Oracle reveals the result of the prediction. The best part? HEDG tokens are automatically distributed to the trader if the Blueprint is correct. If the blueprint is incorrect, tokens are returned to the user.

4. Sweatcoin

Another cryptocurrency app you might have heard of is Sweatcoin. This app pays you for how many steps you take. They also promise they don’t sell your data and instead use it to inform decisions about your health, society, and insurance providers. While we don’t know for sure what the company is doing, we can have some confidence in knowing this tech startup would face fairly severe repercussions if they were lying.

That said, the app will pay you in their own coins. These coins can then be traded for products on their marketplace. SweatCoin is currently available as a free app on iOS and Android that might one day allow their users to redeem their coins for cash. The website itself even says that,

“Soon Sweatcoins will become a universally accepted form of payment”

In the meantime, users can choose to dine at the Eiffel Tower, donate to charity, or cash in some online workout vouchers.

We know you might be wondering how to get started. We’ll assure you it is very easy to get started

It is simple to sign up for an account and only requires your phone number. The app will also ask for your location. Once you’ve accepted this requirement you are good to go. Keep in mind the app is always recording your steps and operates in the background. While this is great since you don’t need to turn it on and off when you plan on walking, it also will result in your phone dying slightly faster than normal.

5. Rover

Next on our list, is the app, Rover. Rover is known as one of the largest networks of dog walkers. You can also take it one step further and offer overnight dog sitting services, house sitting, doggy daycare, and drop-in visits. The choice is yours!

This app also offers a lot of flexibility since you can set your own rates and availability. From there you can seamlessly manage the details of your dog walking business on the Rover website or from the app.

To qualify to be a dog walker you must be over the age of 18 and pass a general background check. If you meet these two requirements, you’re good to go. It is important to keep in mind while you get access to this great community of doggie owners, you also only get to keep 80% of the profits while the other 20% goes back to Rover for community maintenance, educational purposes, marketing, and other general expenses.

That said, the Rover website claims that you can earn up to $1,000 per month as a dog walker, which sounds pretty good to us.

6. Getaround

Do you have a car that you don’t use very often? If this is the case, have you ever considered renting it out when you aren’t using it. If this is the case the Getaround app might just be the app for you. This app is well known in the United States, being featured in the Wall Street Journal, CNN, The Economist, The New York Times, and USA Today.

Keep in mind newer cars are using the first to go. That said, depending on how often you offer up your car you could earn $500 a month or more according to the website. This could be a great side hustle for many. Perhaps this wasn’t as much as you were hoping for but we’d recommend you keep in mind that you only get to keep 60% of the rental rate while Getaround will keep the other 40%. This is because that 40% will cover the insurance rates and roadside assistance in case of unforeseen circumstances. You should be covered to some extent as a background check is also done on renters to ensure those renting your vehicle are somewhat safe drivers.

That said we highly recommend you look into other reviews online. Based on your location, we noted that there were various opinions from customers having great success to less than stellar reviews.

7. Outdoorsy

Along these same lines is the Getaround app is the app Outdoorsy for recreational vehicles (RVs). With this app, RV owners can rent out their RVs on days they are not being used. The going rate for RV rentals is often over $150 dollars a day. This means your earnings can add up pretty quickly.

Some of the benefits to using this platform include:

  • $1M insurance covering the renter and the owner
  • DMV check on all of the drivers
  • 24/7 RV Rental Roadside assistance
  • A dedicated customer support team

Renters also must pass an extensive driving history check, suggesting your RV will be in fairly good hands. At the end of the day, you also have the final say who gets to rent your RV. If you decide to go through with a given renter, you will arrange to meet with them on a given day, drop off the keys and give them a quick overview of your vehicle. To receive your payments you will have to wait 24 hours after the RV is picked up.

Don’t worry if you are still unsure. It is free to list your RV and you will only have to pay the transaction fee if you go through with a booking.

8. TaskRabbit

Perhaps you don’t have a car or an RV just sitting around taking up space. Don’t worry. If this is the case, you might be interested in what the next app has to offer. TaskRabbit allows you to offer your services so you can help around other people’s homes. This could be anything from helping someone move, doing some home repairs, cleaning, mounting a TV, or even some good ol’ Ikea assembly.

While reviews stated it is legitimate, you must keep in mind it might be difficult to predict how much you can make on this platform. This is because the amount you receive for a task varies depending on what the task is and who you are working for. While you do have the freedom to set how much you are willing to do the task for you are also placing bids. Therefore, if your bid is unfair you might not get many people knocking on your door. All tasks are paid for once you have completed the assigned work. Pay is done once you have earned over $25 and can be received through cheque or Paypal.

The best part? You don’t have to pay anything to get started. There is no registration fee to become a tasker. This means you don’t have to worry about spending money or paying for monthly membership fees.

To do well on TaskRabbit, remember the more tasks you complete the better your chances for getting selected to do tasks in the future. This is because you will have more opportunities to prove your great work, which will be reflected in your user profile.

9. Foap

The next money app that should crack your consideration list is Foap. This app is an excellent way to make money by selling your photos and videos as stock images. Like stock images, companies, bloggers, agencies and anyone else you can think of can use these images royalty-free. All you have to do is create a profile and start uploading your stuff on the app. Photos can only be uploaded from the app. This means if you are using a nicer camera you will need to upload these photos to your phone before uploading them onto the app.

This is a super-easy way to make money. Setting up an account only takes 30 seconds (we tried it ourselves)! You can upload photos you have on hand or complete missions. Although, without the premium version you are limited in the tasks you can complete. Photos can sell anywhere from $5 to $100 in which you will be paid out on PayPal account to get paid for your work. The only caveat, Foap has a commission of 50%. This might sound steep but remember that the platform takes a lot of the work out of trying to find buyers for your photos.

To make money, you will first need to wait for interested buyers in your photo. Then on a monthly basis, Foap will pay you through Paypal. However, if you don’t collect before the 15th of the month you will have to wait until the following month to get paid.

You might be wondering where your photos will go after you sell them. You might be surprised to know that big companies like Bank of America, Mastercard and We Are Social use Foap to buy images. Who knows maybe your photos will be on the next Mastercard ad?

10. Doordash

Ever thought of becoming a dasher? If so Doordash is probably right up your alley. For those who have never used their services, Doordash is a food delivery service that was founded in the United States. Food delivery drivers or dashers make up to $25 an hour delivering food. One reviewer said he was earning anywhere from $250-$500 a month in his spare time. That said, to earn this kind of money, you will need to make yourself available to work during the peak hours of the day and be selective about which orders you choose to deliver. By working these hours you can earn extra pay referred to as “peak pay”. There is some strategy to this. After all, if you happen to get more orders in a given area you can make more efficient earnings, maximizing your profit potential.

To get started, keep in mind you must be:

  • Over the age of 18
  • Have a car, scooter or bike
  • Have a driver’s license
  • Pass a background check

Once you pass these requirements you are ready to get started. You can hit the “Dash Now” button on your app to start receiving orders close to you. If you want to set times for later, you can also pre-schedule the times you plan to be dashing! Keep in mind that while most people select to dash close to their home, you can also pick up and do deliveries if you are visiting another city perhaps. This offers you a little more flexibility for your side hustle.

You can further improve your earnings using “challenges”. Keep in mind this is only available in certain geographical areas. These bonuses might resemble something like completing a certain number of deliveries in a certain time frame for a bonus.

11. Acorns

Another great money-making app is Acorns. This app takes your spare change from credit card purchases and deposits and invests it on your behalf. As an example, say you bought mascara for $11.79. The Acorns app will round your purchase up to $12.00 and invest $0.21. This is great for those who have little knowledge of investing or don’t want to make tons of contributions right away.

Signing up for this account is free. But you will need $5 to start investing. With this $5 you can select one of Acorn’s five smart portfolios depending on the level of risk you are willing to take. This varies from a conservative to an aggressive portfolio. The account will automatically rebalance in response to changes in the economy to give your money the best chance to grow.

Another way to boost your portfolio is by shopping with Acorns “Found Money partners”. Each time you make a purchase with one of these partners you’ll automatically earn bonus investments in your account. Some of these partners include Expedia, AirBnb,  Sephora, Nike, and Groupon. This gives you a wide variety of opportunities to earn a little extra on your portfolio.

On the contrary, keep in mind that while the fees are low (between $1-$3) your balance may also be quite low if you are only making small contributions. In these cases, consider your fees might actually make up more than your investments or at least a good chunk of it.

12. Receipt Hog

Next on our list is the one and only Receipt Hog app. This app pays you for uploading receipts from your purchases and earning coins. These coins can be redeemed for sweepstakes entries or paid out through PayPal or Amazon. Keep in mind that the company is owned by InfoScout which is a market research company that attempts to collect research information for companies using people’s smartphones for rewards.

You earn coins based on how much you spend on each receipt. The app rewards receipt based on how much you have spent. This means a receipt with:

  • $10 will earn you 5 coins
  • $10-$50 will earn you 10 coins
  • $50-$100 will earn you 15 coins
  • $100+ will earn you 20 coins

Keep in mind the earnings from this app will not be as much as some of the other options but can help to pay your coffee fund. Most users of the app have claimed they have made between $30-$50 extra dollars throughout the year. While this doesn’t sound like a lot, consider that this is $50 extra you are earning doing stuff you would’ve been doing already. This is considerably less work than filling out surveys. These rewards can then be cashed in and received in less than a week.

That said receipts that are uploaded need to show proof of the store name, transaction amount, transaction date (you need to submit your receipts within 14 days), and the items purchased. Once submitting the image of the receipt with these details, you will then need to answer two questions. These questions are how was your transaction and who was with you when you made this transaction.

13. Honeygain

Perhaps, an app called Honeygrain is more your speed. Honeygrain describes themselves as  “an application which, when turned on, allows you to reach your unused internet’s full potential by making your device a gateway.” This space is used by business clients for web intelligence, market research, and content delivery. When put into action, Honeygain makes the claim that you can earn $30 a month when you share 10 GB of your “unused net traffic with data scientists”. To get started all you need to do is download the app, connect these devices to the Internet, and earn money!

You can expect to earn $20 within 48 days of downloading this app (on average). You will also receive a $5 bonus to start. If you send this app around to your friends you can also earn an additional 10% of their daily earnings which can be added to your account. Credits are earned for every KB of data. 10 credits are equal to 1 American cent. To get paid you need to earn a minimum of $20 USD. Your earnings can be paid out through Paypal and take less than 24 hours to be deposited.

You might be a little apprehensive about sharing your data and rightly so. However, the only information the app takes is what is needed to identify your account and to get paid. This means from our research, it would appear your personal data is at least somewhat secure.

Unfortunately, there is no iPhone app so this app is only applicable to Android. Some other concerns are how much data this will use and how much battery it will use up. While these concerns might not make or break your decisions, it is important to keep in mind there are some “costs” associated with using this app.

14. Mistplay

Perhaps you are someone who likes to play games on their phone. We’ll admit we can relate. If this is the case did you know that you can get paid to play games? The Mistplay application is available to all Android users and can help you earn rewards for discovering and playing new games on your phone. The platform itself identifies as being a loyalty program built for gamers.

Gamers earn points for trying out games that can be redeemed for prizes such as a Visa Card. To start earning, gamers can select a game from the list provided. They can then earn money performing tasks like downloading, testing and playing one of these games. Testing out a game can take anywhere from two to five minutes and costs absolutely nothing for you to sign up. This is because companies require feedback to produce a good offering and are willing to pay to receive these insights. Users claim they have earned up to $50 a month using this app.

Your earnings can continue to grow based on how long you continue using this app. This is because the app also tracks Game Experience Points (GXPs) and Player Experience Points (PXPs). The higher these two numbers are the more you will make for every minute you play. This means you don’t necessarily have to be an experienced game player to earn money from this app.

Start earning with money apps!

After reviewing this article, you might’ve noticed that starting a side hustle was just a little easier than you thought. All it takes is installing a few new apps on your phone! Even better, there are tons to choose from!
